Paris Hilton had a nasty scare this afternoon when an alleged stalker tried to attack her and her boyfriend – as she was on her way to court to testify against ANOTHER alleged stalker. The hotel heiress was reportedly walking to court with her boyfriend Cy Waits to testify against Nathan Parada, who Hilton described as “the other stalker”, when the mystery man “jumped out from the bushes” and allegedly grabbed Waits by the throat. He was immediately dragged to the ground by security guards and later handcuffed by police. The incident occurred outside a courthouse in Van Nuys, California, where Hilton had been set to testify against Parada in connection with an attempted break-in at her Beverly Hills mansion last summer. “We were walking with Paris and another man jumped out from the bushes and grabbed her boyfriend’s neck,” said an eyewitness. “He was saying something about having an arranged marriage with her.” According to eyewitnesses, the man said his name was Jim Rainford – the same man who was arrested in October 2010 for cycling past a security gate towards the front door of Hilton’s home. The LA socialite immediately tweeted her mother after the incident. She wrote: “OMG @KathyHilton! That other psycho intruder just punched Cy in the back of the head as we were walking into the courthouse. So scary! :(“ Police say Parada was found to be in possession of a large knife at the time of the attempted robbery last August. If convicted of the felony burglary charge, he faces six years in state prison.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie spend a staggering $10m a year on childcare, it was claimed today. The superstar couple rack up huge childcare, travel and food bills every month looking after their brood. As well as spending a reported $5m on private jets, the Hollywood pair are said to have splashed out $900,000 last year on a nanny for each of their six children. An insider told In Touch Magazine: “They spend about $10m a year on them. “[But] they donate millions a year to charity, so that’s how they justify spending so much.” Feeding Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, six, Shiloh, four, and two-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, costs about $36,000, according to the US magazine. The source added: “They spend more than a million dollars on private tutors who travel around the world with them. “They [even] once spent $500,000 for one stay at the Waldorf [Astoria hotel in New York].” The couple, dubbed Brangelina by the media, are also estimated to have spent several million dollars on first-class airfare and hotel bills for the youngsters. Representatives for Pitt, 47, and Jolie, 35, were not available for comment.

Aretha Franklin has suggested Halle Berry’s decision not to play her in an upcoming biopic was because the actress was worried about her ability to lip-synch. The 69-year-old singer makes her comments in an interview with USA Today. The Queen of Soul is currently working on a movie about her life and has previously said that she wanted Berry to play her in the film. But the 44-year-old actress reportedly refused to take on the role, citing her inability to match the singer's legendary voice. But Franklin says that she "never expected [Berry] to sing". She adds: "It was more about her likeness, and the fact that she has [acting] experience. "But I guess she wasn't confident in her ability to lip-synch." US singers Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia are now rumoured to be contenders to play Franklin on the big screen. "They're both very good singers and very good actresses," says Franklin about the two former American Idol stars, but adds that she wants the director – who she says she cannot name – to help make the final decision. She says: "My feeling is that we'll end up with two Arethas – one younger and one older. And you never know who we'll find."

Aretha Franklin has revealed that she was so heavy that she once broke an exercise machine. The Queen of Soul recalls the embarrassing moment in an interview with USA Today. She says the incident happened when she was using her Power Rider workout machine at home. “I realised that I was just too heavy,” the 69-year-old Respect singer says. “I had a Power Rider that I used for exercise and I actually broke it – I was that heavy. I didn't know how to lose weight.” The legendary soul singer has since shed a whopping 85lb [6st 1lb] and attributes her dramatic weight loss to sensible eating combined with regular workouts. She says: “I'm on the track at least three times a week, and the treadmill. I'm up to about 26 minutes on the treadmill and a mile and a half on the track. “I haven't worked up to a run yet; it's more like a slow trot.”

Rihanna has revealed that her favourite pastime is watching television. The S&M singer says that when she has a day off she likes to lounge about at home watching the box. She told Top Of The Pops magazine: "When I have a day off, I usually just laze around for as long as possible. I watch TV in bed, blast music out really loudly, or maybe go shopping. "But recently when I've had time off, I haven't really been shopping at all – I've just stayed at home watching TV."

Ace Ventura star Jim Carrey could be set to replace Steve Carell in the US version of The Office, according to reports. Carell, who plays manager Michael Scott, is leaving the popular US show at the end of its current series. And, according to reports, Carrey could be in line to replace Carell as the show’s hapless boss. The 49-year-old funnyman will star in the season finale of The Office during an hour-long special episode, which will be broadcast in the US on 19 May. The Liar, Liar star will join five other “candidates”, including Will Ferrell, to be interviewed as potential replacements for Scott’s job. The Office creator, Ricky Gervais, will also appear in the episode as David Brent.
